What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. Going to therapy is like going to the gym; you may feel sore and you won t see immediate effects, but the long-term results are gratifying and well-worth the investment.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Kirsten Lowell is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). Kirsten s early work centered around helping adolescents and young adults with visual impairments and additional disabilities to learn and apply social and emotional skills. She encouraged clients to foster independent living skills such as self-advocacy, personal safety, and executive functioning. Cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, and strengths-based treatments inform Kirsten's integrated generalist approach to therapy. Kirsten completed her Master of Social Work (MSW) at Simmons University. Prior to joining Thriveworks, she coordinated a medication-assisted treatment (MAT) program aimed at medication management and treating co-occurring disorders such as substance abuse, anxiety, depression, trauma, life transitions, and relationship issues. Kirsten seeks to meet you where you are, strengthen your coping skills, and build a collaborative working relationship to improve overall wellness. Kirsten believes in creating a warm and compassionate space where clients can explore and process their thoughts and feelings.
