What does a first session with you look like?
The following is generally what you can expect in the therapy sessions. 1. Collaborative Goal Setting. I typically work collaboratively with you to identify specific goals you want to achieve during therapy. 2. Problem Analysis and Cognitive Restructuring. I help you identify negative or distorted thinking patterns that contribute to your difficulties. 3. Skill-Building. I teach you specific skills and techniques to manage your emotions, change your behavior, and improve your coping mechanisms. 4. Psychoeducation. I provide psychoeducation pertaining to the connection between thoughts, emotions and behaviors to empower you with knowledge and understanding. 5. I highlight and amplify your existing strengths, skills, and resources. I encourage you to draw upon your capabilities to create positive changes.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) are two therapeutic approaches I use in psychotherapy. CBT involves identifying and challenging negative or irrational thoughts and replacing them with more rational and positive ones. I help you examine the evidence for and against your beliefs to develop a more balanced perspective. This approach focuses on increasing engagement in positive and rewarding activities to counteract negative emotions and behaviors. CBT is typically structured and goal-oriented, with an emphasis on collaboration between myself and you. SFBT approach focuses on finding solutions rather than dwelling on problems. It aims to help you identify and amplify your existing strengths and resources to create positive change in your life.
