During our first session I will gather a clear picture of what brings you into therapy, what you want out of therapy, and I will provide a brief synopsis of how I will support you and help you reach your goals. Throughout each session I will work listen and ask questions to help you recognize barriers to your growth. We will focus on using your values to steer you towards your ultimate goals. I will provide practical solutions and some homework to learn more about yourself between sessions.
I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy which is where we focus on how your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviors. I will teach ways to change one area and how it influences the other two areas to create positive ways of thinking, feeling, and more productive ways of behaving. I also pull from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. This is where understanding how to live within your personal values can be the guide to living a more fulfilling life. We work on gaining distance between you and your negative thoughts so there is room to learn more effective behaviors and ways to cope with life.
