What does a first session with you look like?
We will start by assessing your child's trauma symptoms and deciding what type of therapy (modality) is best for them. Caregiver participation in sessions is recommended and for some therapy types, participation in sessions is required. We will either address the trauma symptoms, process the trauma, and/or address attachment injuries. Talking about the trauma is not necessary to address your child's trauma if they are not there yet. I will meet them where they are.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I offer CFTSI, TF-CBT, EMDR, and M-MAT. CFTSI is a short-term modality that can range from 5-8 sessions and is appropriate for those that recently experienced the trauma, recently disclosed the trauma, or recently had a forensic interview. The goal is to reduce traumatic stress reactions and the onset of PTSD. This modality required caregiver participation in sessions. TF-CBT can be short-term or long-term but it differs case by case. TF-CBT can help reduce a variety of emotional and behavioral challenges associated with their traumatic experience(s). Caregiver participation is highly encouraged. EMDR is a type of therapy designed to reduce the distress associated with traumatic memories. It is effective in helping people recover from trauma and post-traumatic stress symptoms. M-MAT was created for children and families struggling with attachment injuries. M-MAT targets and addresses attachment and connection. It increases emotional regulation and allows your child to make new meaning of their experiences and reduce shame. Caregiver participation is required. The assessment tools I use are PTSD-RI and CPSS to assess trauma symptoms as well as progress throughout treatment.
