What does a first session with you look like?
During the first session, I would like us to get to know each other and what your personal goals are for therapy. From there, we can create a treatment plan listing our goals and objectives. After the first session, we will always check in on how your week has been and explore what progress has been made, even little win’s win! I may assign weekly homework that consists of small reading and writing components, others may be a thought-provoking question. Ultimately, we will be exploring ourselves, learning new coping strategies, communication styles and how to utilize them in our daily lives.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
The treatment methods that I use most often are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is primarily the basis of all modalities of therapy and their subsets. I promote cognitive restructuring, positive self-affirmations, mindfulness, breathing techniques and combating negative thinking/self-talk. There may be other methods we may use, but this is pretty much the basics.
