What does a first session with you look like?

My goal is to help people feel comfortable and safe to share what is on their hearts and minds. I ask questions to help people search for meaning and to learn more about themselves. Sometimes people may feel uncomfortable or silly, but those feelings may lead to issues that need to be explored further. For therapy to be useful, we need to build trust together. This happens over a few sessions. Our first session is an introduction and getting to know you based on intake questions. Sometimes I give clients homework to complete after a session if they prefer this. During your session, you might want to talk about your progress or talk about areas where you felt frustrated or off-track. Remember that each person's situation is unique, and therapy is not one-size-fits all.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Tools I may utilize are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Polyvagal theory, trauma-focused, inner child-work, somatic, strength-based, parts work, person-centered, compassion focused and the companioning model. I also utilize deep breathing, mindfulness and meditation exercises with clients that are open to these exercises.
