What does a first session with you look like?
My goal is always for you to leave our sessions feeling better than when you came in— validated, understood, and with more clarity about your thoughts and feelings. I'm here to help you process your own thoughts and feelings and understand yourself better. As your counselor, it is my job to give you an accepting, affirming, and empathetic environment where you can learn more about yourself, identify things about your life that you like, and process how to change what is not going well for you. I notice my clients feel relief after getting started with just one session.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to therapy is client centered: I believe the client is an expert on their own life and I'm here to help you accomplish the goals you make for yourself. Through a strengths-based and solutions-focused lens, I draw on multiple treatment modalities to guide clients in identifying strengths and learning about their emotions. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), I assist clients in understanding how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are connected and driven. This model can also be used with a trauma lens (Trauma-Focused CBT) to understand how crises and tragedies in our life have affected our ability to cope.
