What does a first session with you look like?

The first counseling session will entail a brief review of the intake. I'll ask if you have any additional information you'd like to share that was not noted on your paperwork. I may also ask clarifying questions. It's important that you feel listened to and understood. I will ask what your goals are and explain how best to get you to where you want to be, in terms of frequency of sessions, areas that we may want to explore, etc...and ask your opinion about that. After each session, you will walk away with an agreed action item to work on that will accompany your renewed sense of hope. You'll experience a greater sense of clarity, feel more confident, and have a better understanding of yourselves and others.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) with behavior modification; Cognitive Challenging, which entails identifying and challenging irrational thought patterns; Cognitive Restructuring, which consists of different techniques to help you unlearn thinking patterns that have contributed to feeling "stuck;" Motivational Interviewing, which includes techniques that address insecurities to help you get unstuck and moving forward with a plan of action; and Narrative Therapy and Interpersonal techniques, to assist with helping you maintain the changes made. I will model and practice therapeutic exercises with you, as well as share the latest research, per request, and have a portfolio of helpful apps and worksheets that can be utilized during or outside session time. I'm here to provide support, answer questions, and bring you the most relevant resources to assist you with the changes and growth desired in your life.
