What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As an African American woman who has been exposed to many cultures, I am sensitive to the needs of others. I was raised in an environment where I was exposed to different demographics, from rich to middle class to poor; the LGBTQ+ community; and people struggling with substance abuse, homelessness, and trauma to name a few. I am non-judgmental and looking forward to changing lives.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Dr. Louvenia Lawson has 10+ years working as a Professional Counselor. She enjoys working with individuals who have experienced trauma. She also enjoys working with all ages and is open to working with all ethnic groups. Dr. Lawson specializes in depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief. She enjoys working with people to help improve their quality of life. Louvenia Lawson has a master's degree in Professional Counseling from Liberty University and a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University. Her preferred modalities are CBT, motivational interviewing, and structured family therapy. Life has challenges. We don't choose our family and we don't always have the coping skills or tools needed to manage the stressors of life. It is good to have a support system and someone to talk to rather than walk around from day to day dealing with pain alone. Dr. Lawson prides herself on being able to build rapport with clients and meet them where they are. If you are ready to address underlying issues and grow as a person to improve your quality of life please schedule an appointment with her today!
