What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. Although the world is full of suffering, it is also full of the overcoming of it.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Macy Preston is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 12 years of experience in counseling and direct case management. Most of her career has been spent with children and families in the midst of homelessness, foster care, and/or adoption, so she is no stranger to walking alongside others in their lowest valleys and on their highest mountains. She also has worked with many adults and couples as they navigate depression, grief and loss, anxiety, and relationship issues. With a background in psychology and a continued interest in the way that our brains impact our lives, Macy works with each unique client to untangle the white noise in their mind and achieve their goals. Macy completed her Bachelor of Science in Psychology at Georgia State University. She went on to complete her Master's of Social Work at the University of Alabama. After several years of supervised work, she received her Clinical Social Work license in Georgia. Macy's educational background and experience in social work have made her trauma-informed and person-focused. No two people are alike, so no two treatment plans can be alike. Macy often leans toward cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT). Author John Green wrote, "There is hope, even when your brain tells you there isn't." Macy considers it an honor to work with individuals and couples as they build their hope and improve their lives.
