The first session is a look into who you are and what's going on in your world. This session is where we "try each other on for size" - that is, we make sure we are a good fit since working issues out can be very hard work and if the counselor isn't a good fit for you, it becomes even harder. I want to let you know there will be homework with me. We can do only so much in 50 minutes and when they say practice makes perfect - that's especially true when we're working to change our thoughts, influence our emotions, and modify our behavior. I don't believe in doing all the talking or all the listening. I offer feedback, Socratic questions, and insights. You can rely on the fact that I am in your corner, always.

I am trained in Traumatic Incident Reduction (TIR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and Health Coaching (HC). I use a solution-focused approach where together we focus on the issue(s) most important to my client. I believe homework is the most useful in helping the client progress through the counseling process.
