The start of something new can can produce anxiety in anyone, not just in the therapeutic setting. For this reason I emphasize the importance of the therapeutic relationship. I align with my families and will often encourage them to share their questions about the process. Once the formalities and informed consents are reviewed we discuss the presenting reasons for therapy.

I specifically will not use one modality. I believe in using a multicultural approach. Which means , I ask a ton of questions. Ranging from your birth order, race, religion, socioeconomic status, profession. In addition, I am eager to learn about your generational influences, role models, and even more importantly how mental health was viewed in your culture and family dynamics. It is more valuable and effective to understand my families lives through their lens opposed to applying a modality and a one size fits all intervention.
