What does a first session with you look like?
I seem to have a different way of looking at someone's issues, for often I have been able to listen to and observe what many other clinicians may miss. Most people feel that they are alone in their issues and often feel embarrassed in talking about certain things because they may be the only person who is dealing with that issue. What a person can learn from me, is that no matter how strange your issue or thoughts may be, there are many others with the same issue, feeling the same way you are. We all are different, but in some ways we are all the same. I utilize analogies and stories that pertain to the persons life, so that they can understand their issue, without having to hear a lot of "big psych words". I don't like big psych words.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
If a name must be given to the style of therapy I practice, it would be Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. But in actuality I utilize my own style, which includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and “common sense”. Which really means, I will do what works for the client. Some people might call it "thinking outside of the box", but I don't think I ever had a box. My style of therapy is also much more conversational. Some clinicians will sit and listen and occasionally ask, "and how does that make you feel?", without saying much else. I am not that kind of clinician. We will talk through your issues to find the answers that will help you. I will not give advice, or tell you how to live your life. This is your life. You tell me what you want and I will try and help you find it.
