What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a single working mother of three adult children and a daughter of an aging, ailing mother, I understand what is to be in the "sandwich generation" and dealing with the stressors and hardships many of my clients are trying to juggle in their lives.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Mattie is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who is board certified to manage a wide range of mental health issues which include PTSD, depression, insomnia, and anxiety. Mattie's role as a PMHNP includes assessing, diagnosing, making treatment recommendations, and medication management. Mattie completed her Bachelor's in Science of Nursing at Texas A & M University and her Master's in Science of Nursing at Walden University where her studies focused on mental health. She then obtained her board certification from the American Nurses Credentialing Center as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Mattie is an experienced clinician with more than 8 years of experience in mental health in a variety of roles which helped her learn how to build rapport with patients and understand the barriers they face. She focuses on medication management with a person-centered, trauma-focused approach. As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, Mattie understands that mental illness has no limits and crosses all ages, genders, sexual orientations, races, socioeconomic statuses, cultures, and religions. Everyone is susceptible to mental illness at some point in their life. Mattie is trained and experienced in how to help and support you in your time of need regardless of who you are or what you are struggling with. It can feel overwhelming to start a conversation with your friends, family, and healthcare providers due to the stigma of mental health issues. Please schedule an appointment with her today if you are ready to start your conversation and treatment.
