What does a first session with you look like?
I understand how intimidating therapy can feel. In your first session, I will try to make you feel at ease as I get to know you and explore what brought you to therapy. Together, we will discuss your goals and come up with a treatment plan that best fits your needs and desires. During therapy, we will identify patterns and beliefs, learn healthy coping skills, and reduce disturbances caused by painful memories. I routinely assign homework to incorporate your new skills into your everyday life so that you can feel more confident in handling future circumstances.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) helps you change the way you think and feel about yourself and the world, ultimately changing how you respond in different situations. I also use Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) or EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) to teach you healthy coping skills and desensitize the effects of traumatic memories.
