What does a first session with you look like?
During the first therapy session we will just get to know each other. We will go over why you are seeking therapy and we may talk about short and long term therapy goals. I may ask questions to get to know you better, such as: “What are your symptoms?”; “What has helped/not helped in the past?”; “Do you have suicidal ideation?”; “What do you hope to get from therapy?”; etc. I will also answer any questions you may have. If you like “homework”, I may assign something low-key, such as reading or mindfulness. The first session is basically an intake and an opportunity for you and I to get to know each other better. As we go along, you will gain a deeper understanding of yourself and what brought you into therapy. You will gain tools and knowledge that will help you treat and manage your symptoms.

Some of the interventions I use include Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Solution Focused, Walk and Talk Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, and Holistic.
