What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a Ph.D therapist with 36 years in private practice and as a contractor for the DOD, I'm experienced with couples and individual therapy for military, former military, and civilian clients.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Dr. Matthew Parvis has over 30 years of experience in practice as both a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) helping thousands of individuals and couples create positive and lasting changes in their lives. He specializes in working with adults and seniors who are coping with grief, loss, depression, anxiety, couples issues, and dysfunctional family dynamics. Dr. Parvis has the clinical expertise to apply any tool at his disposal that helps you move toward your goal. Therapy is a collaboration and a conversation between therapist and client on your journey of growth, healing, and meaningful change. He believes that the hardest step in therapy is the first one: taking the risk of letting someone genuinely know you so that you can better accept and understand yourself. Dr. Parvis considers caring, acceptance, and respect as the foundation for success in the therapeutic experience. To him, therapy is most valuable when you experience being seen, heard, and understood. From that trust comes the willingness to take one step at a time is creating the life and relationships you desire.
