What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Melissa Matherson is a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a master's level Certified Addiction Professional in Florida. She was originally licensed in California and has been working in the mental health and substance abuse fields since 2000. She has worked with a variety of age groups in a variety of settings; her specialty is working with adults with co-occurring disorders. She has a master's degree from Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology. Her approach in her practice of psychotherapy is eclectic and tailored to meet the individual needs of the client. Some of the models she incorporates in therapy include- Cognitive Behavioral, Rational Emotive, Dialectical Behavioral, Psychodynamic, Existential, Humanistic, Family systems, Addiction models as well as many others. She is a firm believer in holistic healing practices and creating balance as key elements to sustaining a good quality of life.
