What is your style/approach to therapy?

Above all, I am a person-centered therapist. I believe clients are the experts of their own lives and I am merely a guest that is walking alongside them during this chapter in their lives to provide guidance. I provide an integrative lens to treatment, combining various modalities to meet each client's individual needs and goals. I am a board-certified art therapist which leads my work. Specific theories that drive much of my practice include: CBT, mindfulness, spirituality, existential, and Jungian approaches.

What does a first session with you look like?

Clients are encouraged to reach out to book a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation before scheduling a first appointment. A first session includes a traditional intake layout, usually an hour long. Ideally, I will send paperwork that needs completed prior to the initial session. I will review the most important aspects such as confidentiality and other policies as well as make sure insurance information and payment information is completed. I will review the completed intake form and fill in any other gaps, as well the "Client Interview" form sent out prior. I will provide space for you to explain in your own words what you hope to achieve in therapy and any other thoughts or concerns. I open the door for clients to ask any questions they may have for me and allow the space to see if this is a good fit. Discussion on frequency of treatment and scheduling is also explored before the session ends.

In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?

I know first and foremost what it is like to be on the client side of therapy. I empathize with how intimidating and vulnerable it can be to open up the most fragile aspects of yourself with another individual. I am here to support you, without judgment, to validate and normalize your thoughts, feelings and/or experiences. My own mental health struggles and trauma have helped me resonate and provide a safe space for others who are struggling. You are not alone in your experiences and everyone deserves a chance to be heard and to heal.

Education

Seton Hill University, Master of Arts, Art Therapy with Specialization in Counseling, 2021

My degree was specifically tailored for work in the field of art therapy. I also learned the fundamentals of traditional counseling/psychotherapy during my program. My final thesis/culminating project reflected on my internship experience in an adolescent behavioral health unit. I pulled from my own personal experiences as a struggling teenager and incorporated symbolism, imagery and psychological theory that emerged through my art process and work with clients. Adolescent mental health was a target of my research along with Jungian theory through the power of art-making. My journey of becoming an art therapist/counselor was addressed as the primary subject in my thesis which resulted in deep personal reflection and reflection into my goals and role as a therapist.

Lebanon Valley College, Bachelor of Arts, 2016

Work History

I started out in the field with an internship on an Adolescent Behavioral Health Inpatient Unit. Upon graduation, I continued my work in an agency setting for 2.5 years before transitioning to private practice. On the side, I facilitated art therapy groups at a private practice. I am a board-certified art therapist with the Art Therapy Credentials Board. I work with individuals 14+. I have experience working with individuals and groups, in person and telehealth.
