What does a first session with you look like?
In our first session, you'll be able to share what you're comfortable with, what you're hoping to get out of therapy, and ask any questions you may have. I'll answer any questions and offer any insight regarding what treatment modalities I think will be a great fit for you based on your personality and current goals. My desire, as we work together, is to hold up a mirror for you to see yourself and all that makes you wonderful, as well as to help you understand parts of you that are currently struggling. I hope to help you understand yourself as our therapy progresses so that you can engage in your life with an increased sense of confidence and self-compassion. You can expect my support as you process past events, learn coping skills and mindfulness training, and develop increased emotional access.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in holistic, trauma-informed treatment modalities. I am certified in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing). This is an evidence-based approach that will help you reprocess past events that are continuing to impact your emotional well-being and self-beliefs (even if you're not quite sure what those events are right now). I have also been continuing training in IFS (Internal Family Systems Therapy) for several years now. Essentially, I believe that we are all born whole, complete, kind, curious, compassionate, and capable. As we experience life, both the good and the bad, we develop "parts" to help us through and protect us. I'm here to help you get to know your parts and regain access to your true self with self-compassion rather than judgment. I am certified in DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy), a therapy that utilizes behaviorism, mindfulness training, emotional regulation skills, and relational skills to help you learn how to practice radical self-acceptance while also knowing that you need to change. In addition to my area of study in Mental Health Counseling with a focus in trauma, I hold degrees in Human Development and Family Studies, as well as Women's Studies. All of the therapies I use promote change by focusing on healing of the mind and body in conjunction.
