What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a clinician with over 10 years of experience, there is very little that surprises me, which helps keep me judgment-free.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Nakeisha McGee is a licensed therapist with over 10 years of experience. She has worked with many different populations, which include children from 3-17 years old, adults, and couples. She has also successfully worked in emergency mental health care, substance abuse, parenting and family counseling, corporate coaching, depression, anxiety, intimacy coaching, life transitions, clinical problem solving, and foundational thought editing and management. Nakeisha completed a Bachelor of Arts in Interpersonal Communication and Counseling from the University of Central Oklahoma. She went on the complete Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy, with a Child Play Therapy program extension from Southern Nazarene University. She has traveled to many places foreign and domestic; however, she is originally from Chicago and has spent a significant portion of her life in Oklahoma City. Being well-traveled and having experienced different cultures gives her a very broach perspective to challenge clients to achieve their own version of healing, not her own. This creates an environment where the client's "stuff" is analyzed WITH the client to find the most helpful solutions. Therapy is a tool that is helpful for anyone, whether you are experiencing symptoms of a major instance of trauma or just need a different perspective to alleviate a pressing issue. Nakeisha is confident that whatever your reason for reaching out, you are met with warmth, understanding, and truth. Nakeisha believes that honesty is an important part of therapy, and she strives to be the most honest in her clinical conclusions to give you the best options for forward movement.
