What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?

The relationship we develop and the trust created is the key to successful therapy.

In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?

My personality is outgoing and somewhat gregarious. I have a love for people, am passionate about being a psycho therapist and truly care for my clients. I am pretty straight forward and have a relaxed approach in general and I bring this to the therapeutic setting.

If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?

It doesn't have to be scary. You are not weak if you seek therapy but rather are brave. Even if you see yourself as a tough person and have a hard time with feelings of vulnerability, therapy can become comfortable and be productive.

Work History

My history of working with people in need began at age 17 when I volunteered at a summer camp for children with autism. I then worked at a summer camp for emotionally challenged children and adolescence and another summer camp for intellectually impaired young adults. After receiving my bachelor’s degree I worked as a Mental Health Associate at Fair Oaks Hospital in NJ, on the adolescent psychiatric unit and later the adolescent substance abuse unit. I worked as a counselor for the NJ Department of Corrections with juvenile offenders for two years. I then returned to Fair Oaks taking a position as an outpatient adolescent counselor, running an Early Intervention Program and an aftercare adolescent substance abuse treatment program. I received extensive training in systems based family therapy and general group therapy during this time. I Worked toward and received my MSW from Rutgers University during this time. In 1994 I became Clinical Director of a new adolescent outpatient treatment facility in Morristown NJ. I was instrumental in developing the programing and training staff. I moved on to become at first a counselor, then Clinical Director and then owner of Treatment Dynamics, an outpatient adult and adolescent substance use treatment facility in Morristown NJ. After twenty years Treatment Dynamics had two sites and many adult and adolescent programs. We provided co-occurring treatment as well as extensive family programing. After selling the company in 2014 I worked for the new owners in the capacity of Regional Clinical Director. I moved on to focus on expanding my private practice, which had been a part time endeavor for almost twenty years, and providing consultation to treatment facilities as well as continuing to provide supervision. Having moved to Florida in 2019 I have been developing my private practice, am a clinical director at an outpatient facility and work with another outpatient facility here as well. I continue to provide therapy both in person and via telehealth. My primary modality of therapy is Client Centered Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and I see thru a systemic lens as well. I utilize some CBT in my practice also. I treat those with mood disorders, substance use disorders and co-occurring disorders. I have proved effective treating men in recovery and have experience with those dealing with psychotic disorders. I also treat tram as well. I am licensed in Florida and NJ as an LCSW, hold a NJ LCADC and am an approved clinical supervisor in both states as well as an approved supervisor for those working toward substance use disorder treatment licensure.
