Under Clinical Supervision

Nicole Schaefer, Resident, 123 is practicing under the supervision of Anna Sumerlin (New Jersey, LPC, 37PC00624500) at Thriveworks Counseling & Psychiatry Edison.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Nicole Schaefer is a Licensed Associate Counselor (LAC) with two years of clinical experience providing counseling services to children and adolescents with behavioral challenges and developmental disabilities. She has also worked for two years providing counseling services to adult clients who were experiencing relational conflicts, depression, anxiety, life transitions, and difficulties coping with stressors. Nicole completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at Rutgers University and received her Master of Arts in Forensic Mental Health Counseling from the City University of New York, John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She also received an Advanced Certificate in Victimology Studies. She has worked in both in-home and clinical settings with clients of varying backgrounds. Nicole utilizes an eclectic evidence-based approach with her clients to adjust services to best meet the needs of the individual client. Nicole s therapeutic modality draws upon cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), person-centered therapy, motivational interviewing, and positive psychology. Nicole is committed to creating an atmosphere of safety, support, genuineness, and compassion, through which clients can feel comfortable opening up and working through the difficulties that brought them to counseling. Her mission is to support clients on their journey towards healing, self-discovery, and growth in order to improve life functioning and achieve the client s desired goals. Nicole looks forward to supporting you on your own therapeutic journey.
