What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
Obinna Okonkwo is a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner in Maryland who has been practicing since 2021. He has an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing from Prince George's Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Maryland University College, and a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner from Walden University. Mental health disorder is a major healthcare issue in the United States of America with nearly one in five U. S. adults living with a mental illness according to the National Institute of Mental Health (2022). Obinna went to school to become a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner to serve his community by providing early diagnosis and treatment of mental illness to clients that need services with the goal of achieving early remission or reduction of symptoms for the clients to function at their best. To treat addiction disorder, Obinna uses an evidence-based collaborative care approach to provide individualized treatment to his clients with an addictive disorder. He provides primary prevention of addictive disorders through individual and group addiction prevention education.
