What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. I am a compassionate, proactive clinician who gets started working on solutions with you right away.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Pamela Detlefsen is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Certified Addiction Professional (CAP) who has been in practice for the past 19 years. Pamela is certified to treat mental health, family, and addiction issues. She completed her dual degree in Mental Health Counseling and Marital, Couple, and Family Therapy at Barry University in Miami. She also completed graduate work at the University of Miami. Pamela strives to provide person-centered treatment with a strong background in classical theory and evidence-based practices. She believes that healthy self-esteem is the foundation for sound relationships and robust functioning. Pamela s approach is primarily existential therapy, which means discussion about what is meaningful for clients in the present. This can also involve understanding relevant parts of the past with a view towards the future. Pamela is well-versed in psychodynamic and attachment theories, which help pinpoint places in one s history where false narratives about the self and the world may have taken root, leading to problems in the present. Finally, client-centered theory is always part of the therapeutic environment, meaning that Pamela will consistently monitor a client s timing for change and provide non-judgmental feedback and support as they go. She is also qualified as a couples and family therapist and can assist with challenges in these areas. A warm hello and congratulations on taking this important step in improving your well-being and enhancing your future. Life's circumstances, ongoing internal struggles, or both, can result in situations where we are compelled to reach out for help. This is a natural part of the human experience, especially today, in complicated times. Pamela has 19 years of experience providing clients with compassionate guidance to identify realistic solutions for situations and struggles which face everyone. She uses varying approaches to build and enhance the therapeutic relationship. Pamela is consistently mindful about a person's capacity and readiness to explore growth. Therapy can be invigorating and lead a person to emerge from frustrating, and, at times, demoralizing ruts. Chronic anxiety, depression, anger, drug and alcohol abuse, process addictions (shopping, food, TV are examples) are distressing and rob a person of enjoying what life has to offer. There are proven pathways to well-being. In some cases, despite great effort, someone is not able to see the way through a difficult situation by themselves. This is the moment for professional intervention. By the time people seek therapy typically they have been grappling with their issues for a long while and have not been able to attain meaningful resolution. Pamela s breadth of knowledge and experience will permit you to begin working right away. She can help you get on your way to a fuller, happier life.
