What does a first session with you look like?

Psychiatric Assessments (Medication Evaluation) are typically 60 min and follow up appointments are 30 minutes--unless otherwise discussed. I am a firm believer that patients are the experts in their own cases. It can be important to involve family & significant others (as needed); however, the patient is ultimately the decision-maker. I’d like to consider your preferences, your goals & desires when formulating your plan of care. ASK QUESTIONS: a well-informed patient often makes better decisions. Don’t hesitate to ask! Reasonable requests will be entertained.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Active Listening is the Number One Tool. I'd like to consider environmental, physical, as well as mental health factors when planning care and deciding on best course of action. I like to remind patients, that when we are trying a new medication, it is a trial; we need to decide if the medication works; are there any side effects--are they tolerable? If a medication does not agree with you, we can try a different dose or a different agent. Nothing is set in stone.
