A session with me can be varied, but generally, I try to set goals and assess them every few sessions to show progress or alter our goals as needed. I am also flexible in addressing current concerns as they arise. “Progress” can mean different things at various times. Ultimately, the goal is to create a forward momentum that will translate into everyday life. Often there are things that we can decide on (aka homework) that will help us to direct our sessions to what is most helpful. Together we will find what works best for you to reach the goals you want to achieve.
Just like each person is unique, each treatment plan is personalized. My primary theoretical orientation is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy because I believe our thoughts, emotions and behaviors impact each other. I also use Interpersonal Therapy because we are, generally, social creatures and improving our relationships can help improve our wellbeing. Most (if not all) of us have a creative side that can be essential to our growth, so when appropriate, art, music, writing, photography, crafting, role-playing, narration, drama and more can be incorporated in to healing, defining our life experience and increasing resiliency.
