What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Richard Saxton is a Licensed Professional Counselor with over 27 years of providing therapeutic services to individuals, couples, and families seeking help for anxiety; oppositional behavior; self-esteem; depression; trauma, and anger management. He is a retired veteran and understands the unique counseling needs of service members and their families. Richard earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History from Duke University, and a Master of Education Degree in Counseling and Guidance from Howard University.Richard believes that each client is unique and provides client centered therapy based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT); Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT); Attachment Based Family Therapy (ABFT); Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Mindfulness to develop skills and strategies that will meet each person s needs. Richard believes that therapy is a journey of discovery. Each client has innate skills and abilities which can be discovered, sharpened, and used as part of an effective treatment plan. Richard will teach clients how to use their skills, while building additional strategies, and techniques, which will help address their therapeutic needs.
