What does a first session with you look like?

When we meet, I will ask you to describe what happened to direct you to talk with a counselor. That is a brave step to take, and often there is uncertainty. As you tell your story, I will also ask about the future you want to grow into. All this conversation will happen with compassion and eyes open for opportunities to express kindness to you and others in your world.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I work from a compassion-focused and trauma-informed CBT model. This means that I use a lot of reflections, and some questions, to learn what happened that brought you to counseling. My training is in person-centered approaches, cognitive-behavioral therapies, substance use counseling, and family counseling. Mostly, I use deep listening and empathy.
