What does a first session with you look like?
The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. I am a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with a strong track record of establishing solid relationships with clients and co-workers a professional driven to help others overcome personal obstacles.
What should we know about your experiences and background?
Ruby is a Board-Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) who is originally from New Jersey and received a Bachelor's in Biology and a Bachelor's in Nursing from Stockton University. She worked as a pharmacy technician for 5 years and as a nurse for 5 years before completing her Master's education at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences. Ruby is incredibly passionate about the destigmatization of mental health and addiction. Ruby's specializes in anxiety, depression, mood disorders, schizophrenia, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, insomnia, addiction, behavioral issues, coping skills, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), self-esteem, stress, trauma, and PTSD. She believes you, the client, are the best source of knowledge for your own strengths and struggles. Thus, she embraces an approach of active, patient, and nonjudgemental listening in order to address your concerns as you work toward optimal wellness. Ruby considers therapy a vital component of part of her treatment approach, using treatments like cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy (DBCT), among others. She believes that quality psychiatric treatment starts with therapy. When necessary, she relies on her extensive experience to collaboratively develop an individualized medication plan with clients. She understands that some individuals may worry about potential medication side effects, and she encourages an open discussion about the risks, benefits, and alternatives to any treatment plan. Whether you are suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, substance abuse problems, relationship difficulties, psychosis, or any other mental health issue, she will help you address your specific physical, mental, and emotional difficulties. Outside of academics, she enjoys spending time with family/friends, traveling, reading mystery books, playing board games, and trying new cuisines/restaurants. Everyone has their own obstacles in life. Ruby believes that most people need guidance, to feel listened to, and a small push to overcome their challenges. She believes treating the person is more important than simply treating symptoms, and medications are only ever one part of the plan. If you are ready to get started, schedule an appointment with her today.
