What does a first session with you look like?
We will work together to identify the underlying issues that are contributing to the problem that you would like to address. This often includes looking at the present day, how your thoughts, feelings and behaviors are related to each, and also at the past, how past events have shaped how your thinking and view of the world. The goal is to develop your understanding and set of skills so that you create change and address challenges in an empowering and healthy manner.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Foremost I take a person-centered approach, acknowledging that you are the expert on your life, your experience, and your goals. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy but also pull from other CBT branches like Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy. My training as a marriage and family therapist also means that I incorporate the impact “systems” (i.e. families, partnerships, community, gender, race, ethnicity, etc.) have on us.
