What does a first session with you look like?
The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a young psychiatric mental health Nurse Practitioner, my duty is to increase access to mental health care and remove stigma connected to mental illness.
What should we know about your experiences and background?
Sabelle Mbye is a Board Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner authenticated by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). She initially attended Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia, where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing, then pursued her interest in psychiatry and mental health, graduating with honors from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a Master of Science in Nursing. At the University of Alabama at Birmingham, her training included an intensive practicum at Highland Rivers Health, one of Georgia s largest behavioral healthcare providers operating outpatient clinics, residential treatment facilities, crisis stabilization units, and programs for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. During her years as a Registered Nurse, she worked at WellStar Paulding hospital s inpatient unit, treating and stabilizing acutely ill patients before transitioning to outpatient clinics. Sabelle has worked for over four years with various populations across the lifespan, with much exposure to mental health illnesses such as anxiety, depression, and other mood disorders. Sabelle s most significant interest lies in decreasing the stigma associated with mental health and increasing access to psychiatric care. Sabelle graduated from two highly accredited institutions, the University of Alabama and Kennesaw State University, earning a master's at UAB and a bachelor's degree at KSU. Sabelle's approach to therapy is deeply rooted in CBT, or cognitive behavioral therapy. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that has been demonstrated to be effective for a range of problems including depression, anxiety disorders, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems, eating disorders, and severe mental illness. Numerous research studies suggest that CBT leads to significant improvement in functioning and quality of life. In many studies, CBT has been demonstrated to be as effective as, or more effective than, other forms of psychological therapy or psychiatric medications. Life is full of ups and downs. However, our means of navigating through difficult times determine outcomes that could be negative or positive. Sabelle is confident that she has the capabilities to support and guide any individual through trying times. All you have to do is ask. Call and schedule an appointment with her today.
