What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a telehealth clinician, I look forward to meeting you where you are at, virtually and emotionally!

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Samantha Heath is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in North Carolina with over 6 years of experience. She completed a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Master of Social Work at East Carolina University. Since graduate school, she has provided social work services on the mezzo-, macro-, and micro-level. Samantha has worked in a variety of settings with diverse clients to include teenage mothers within the school system, survivors of domestic violence while managing and providing psychoeducational support in a shelter, pregnant women and children in the public health field, men within the prison system, and a range of individuals during outpatient practice. During her time in the public health sector, she served as a member of the Child Fatality Prevention Team (CFPT), Community Child Protection Team (CCPT), and the Behavioral Health Taskforce in her county of residence. Samantha has also engaged in fundraising, education for the community, and connecting individuals to community resources within her various roles. While providing outpatient services, she largely worked with teens and adults and provided support services during times of transition whether after the birth of a new child, the loss of a loved one, the end or beginning of a new relationship, new employment, education, and so forth. Topics addressed included anxiety, depression, grief and loss, goal development, adjustment, and trauma. Samantha has also worked with individuals diagnosed as Severely Mentally Ill (SMI) assessing and treating symptoms of Schizophrenia and Bipolar as well as those with personality disorders. Samantha incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), person-center therapy, and solution-focused brief therapy with person-in-environment and strengths-based perspective to guide her clients towards self-actualization. She utilizes empathy and compassion to validate her client's feelings. She respects each individual's autonomy and aims to support clients in a journey of increased self-awareness. Samantha sees the therapeutic process as a collaborative experience and values assisting clients with boundary-setting in their personal and professional lives.
