What does a first session with you look like?

Our first session will consist of us getting to know each other, I like to introduce myself and my experience to help you determine if I will be a good fit for you. We will discuss limitations of telehealth services and backup plan if internet or computer issues occur. I would like to then learn more about you: your current symptoms and functioning, prior treatment and what has been helpful, your hobbies and support system. We will discuss safety and create a safety plan together if needed. I hope our first session brings you hope and comfort in knowing we will work together to overcome your symptoms and improve your quality of life. I like to send educational information and worksheets that may be helpful after our sessions to better understand and practice skills we discussed.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I primarily use evidence-based practices Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), also Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, (DBT) along with short-term Solution-Focused therapy as appropriate. I have been trained in Motivational Interviewing, which can be helpful when feeling overwhelmed or "stuck". I believe it is important to understand your diagnosis and symptoms, I like to educate clients to better understand their current concerns through discussion, worksheets and articles. I believe in teaching a variety of skills to help manage symptoms and overcome negative thoughts which include: controlled breathing, visualization and grounding exercise, challenging anxious and negative thoughts through simple tools and questions, identifying strengths and positive, unique attributes.
