What does a first session with you look like?

The first session, as with all Thriveworks therapists, will involve talking through your needs and goals for therapy — whether those involve managing depression, anxiety, relationship problems, or another mental health challenge. This will enable you to receive the very best care, as a personalized treatment plan will then be developed for subsequent sessions. Thriveworks helps people live happier, more fulfilling lives. Clients are guided and supported as they work through their unique mental health challenges – and, along the way, shown the life-changing power of therapy.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I offer a variety of counseling approaches including CBT / Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems. As a practitioner of the arts and counselor, I understand the profound effect art can have on processing emotions and how it can take you on a journey of self-exploration.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Sarah Rash is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) , working toward her license in counseling. She has 6 years of combined experience working in a variety of counseling venues. She has a passion for helping teens to adults understand and navigate the challenges they face as a result of life circumstances or diagnoses to lead to more rewarding day-to-day lives. Sarah specializes in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, coping skills education, self-esteem, and self-exploration/growth. While student teaching for Art Education, Sarah found a love of helping others through conversation. She returned to Radford University following her undergraduate degree to complete her Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Having previously earned a degree in the arts, Sarah finds unique ways to incorporate art into counseling to address emotional needs when words fail. Sarah utilizes an eclectic blend of counseling modalities, but her favorites are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), biblio-therapy, expressive arts, mindfulness, gestalt, and solution-focused therapy. Healing and growth are uniquely individual experiences. Sarah is confident she can offer you a guiding hand along your journey, provide education of new coping skills, help expand your perspective and gain greater insight, and cultivate more self-compassion.
