What does a first session with you look like?
We typically begin with a free 20-min Initial Consultation, which is an opportunity to discuss your needs and ensure a good fit. You can schedule this as an "Intake" appointment. Once a mutual decision is made to begin therapy, we'll schedule weekly sessions. In the first 2-3 sessions we'll clarify your specific goal and thoughts about what is getting in the way of achieving that, identify what you intend to accomplish in this therapy, and develop a plan for how we'll approach this (including measures of success, frequency, and timeframe). In some instances, after completing therapy clients return as additional goals or challenging transitions emerge. Others identify additional goals during their initial therapy and make a choice to expand the plan and timeframe of our work.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
Trained in psychodynamic theory, my practice is grounded in an understanding of human development, attachment theory, equity & resilience. In everyday language, that means I recognize each client's unique approach to life is influenced by many factors – how your brain processes thoughts, feelings & sensations; relationships with people while growing up; relationships with people you counted on growing up and now; your gender, identity, race, ethnicity & class; life events & your stage of life. Practices include: • Attachment-Based Therapy • Control Mastery Theory • Executive Function Coaching • Mindfulness Practices • Motivational Interviewing • Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) • Trauma Resiliency Model • Solution Focused and Strength-Based Interventions
