What does a first session with you look like?

My role is to meet you right where you are, whether you are early on in the process or months or years into the journey. There is no “right” or “wrong” way to grieve. You will always be met with understanding, empathy, and a space where you can feel safe expressing whatever you are experiencing. We’ll work together to identify what you’re feeling in the here and now, then come up with strategies that you can begin putting into action in your life right away. Through a variety of age-appropriate interventions, including art or play therapy, I’ll help you or your child process and work through your grief in the way that’s right for you. I work with children (ages 10+), adolescents, adults, and seniors in individual, couples, and group therapy. I specialize in working with law enforcement personnel and Veterans. My husband and father are Veterans, and many of my friends are either Veterans or active duty. My research has focused on Veterans, active duty, and law enforcement. The project specifically target the resilience of those who experience PTSD and their family members. I simultaneously volunteered for years with the USMC as a civilian, which was an incredible and fun experience. My doctoral research focused on the intersectionality of community violence and PTSD.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Narrative Based Therapy, Mind-Body Medicine, Clinical Hypnosis, and EMDR. I have a Master of Social Work from Tulane University and Doctor of Social Work from the University of Southern California. I have experience working with clients of all ages in various settings, including community coalitions and law enforcement and justice centers. My work has focused on violence reduction, substance abuse support, and community building. I have also completed 200-hour yoga training and enjoy incorporating movement and hands-on practices such as art therapy into work with clients.
