What does a first session with you look like?
First sessions usually involve a review of your history so that I can begin to understand you. This is combined with deep listening to your concerns and wishes for your life. We will begin to clarify the issues and work on finding what is most important to you. It's important for you to feel safe in the sessions and to feel free to ask me questions, share any disagreements---in otherwords, to develop an authentic relationship where you can be yourself. As sessions progress, we will explore deeper issues, spiritual concerns and look at ways your past, family and collective history may have limited your possibilities and explore options for a broader view.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
There are so many different methods and tools! I have had many years of working in different settings with different appoaches---from psychodynamic, to family systems, trauma-informed, to existential and Buddhist and of course behavioral. Your interests and concerns will inform the apporaches I utilize. Please discuss this with me if you have specific concerns about approaches.
