What is your style/approach to therapy?

My approach to change is integrative, meaning that it combines methods and ideas from different schools of thought. It is based on the concept that no singular theoretical framework can be effective with all concerns, in all contexts, with all people. With this underlying belief, I have focused on gaining continual awareness, knowledge, and skills regarding trauma. I’m certified in the integrative therapy EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing), which is my primary method. I also have training and experience in numerous somatic modalities, such as Yoga Teacher Training, Yoga of 12-Step Recovery, Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga, Somatic Experiencing, and Tension & Trauma-Releasing Exercises. Systemically, we are organized in hierarchal power-over/power-under structures that assign inherent value. This understanding identifies the fundamental roles that trauma and stress, and the socio-cultural pressures of living, exert on our bodies, minds, and collective. We are interconnected and interdependent.

What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

I use a non-diagnostic approach with longer sessions (90-minutes) to really ensure we are able to focus on root cause and find resolve!

What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?

One significant barrier is cost and/or accessibility. One of the ways I attempt to mitigate this is by providing an accessible & affordable option for healing by offering trauma-releasing yoga (TRY) classes! Open to everyone. TRY is a simple practice designed to relieve and resolve both chronic and traumatic stress through the integration of evidence-based somatic techniques. Some benefits include: • reduction in physical pain and improvement in health • increased energy and sense of calm • greater resilience • less reliance on unhelpful coping mechanisms • reduced stress and trauma-related symptoms, including anxiety and depression • better sleep and rest
