What does a first session with you look like?
I am a therapist who is willing to meet a person where they are at. Feeling loved and validated is an important goal in life and for those that have never had it, I truly enjoy walking with someone and teaching them how to love themselves and validate their own feelings.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I believe in a person-centered approach. I provide empathy and positive regard with clients. Everyone has strengths, I like to build on those strengths. I utilize cognitive-behavior techniques to help a person pinpoint what unhelpful thoughts are getting into the way of them feeling better about themselves. I enjoy using EMDR therapy to help people lessen the "emotional charge" around traumatic events. It is true that some traumatic events will always suck, but we can help influence the "emotional charge" around those events. I enjoy helping a person become familiar with their triggers and become less emotionally hijacked by them.
