I work collaboratively with clients, using interventions from a variety of therapeutic approaches, including family systems, cognitive behavioral, as well as existential and humanistic theories, and the spiritual principles of 12 step recovery. The specific interventions are determined by your situation and your readiness to change your current life circumstances. I place high value on the therapeutic bond between us. Once we have an understanding of what brings you to counseling, we will work together to create a plan for moving forward. There will be times when I “assign homework” between sessions. It is important for my clients to recognize that there can be some risk involved with the counseling process. Sometimes people experience an increase in stress, with things seeming to get worse before they get better. This is not unusual or abnormal. Other worrisome things may surface, depending on your particular situation. I expect people to leave sessions knowing we are partners in these times of stress and to feel free to ask questions and to openly share if concerns surface. I will bring to your attention for discussion concerns/risks should I observe any.
