What does a first session with you look like?

For the first session expect to hear you tell me about yourself. There are some intake, forms, and information gathering that happens. This process allows me to learn and prioritize your needs so WE can form a plan and set goals. Since the first session is not typical, I will leave you with at least one technique to help you cope until the next session, where we work on your therapy goals. In the sessions after that, you can expect to feel heard; expect to be asked,” How are you feeling at this moment?” (I wish to hear your true feelings and not a politically correct response); expect to learn and practice coping skills and homework to strengthen new skills; expect to be challenged and lastly expect to change.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Treatment approaches used are Person-Centered, Cognitive Behavioral (CBT), Mindfulness-Based (MBCT), Somatic Psychotherapy, Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT), Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Trauma-Focused CBT. I use the Gottman Approach for couples’ relationship conflicts, wherein I completed level 3 certification. I explain and offer the Biblical or Integration approaches for those who identify as Christian and seek a Biblical view.
