What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

Margaret Owen is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Rhode Island. She holds degrees from the University of Georgia (BA), New York Academy of Art (MFA), and Rhode Island College (MSW). Margaret's first career as a professional artist and teacher informs her clinical presence and she brings patience, attention to detail, love of the natural world, and deep curiosity to her work with people. Her clinical practice is guided by a strengths-based perspective and grounded in the Rogerian principle of unconditional positive regard. She sees therapy as a relational, collaborative process. She believes in tailoring therapy to the needs of the client and uses a client-specific and eclectic approach when selecting clinical interventions and modalities. She brings a special consciousness to such "age and stage" issues as parenthood; relationships; education; difficult life transitions; aging; caring for aging parents; and self-development. Margaret has been studying mindfulness and Zen meditation for over 20 years and is fascinated by how neurophysiology can improve well-being. She is the proud parent of a thoughtful, creative young adult. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors (even in winter), reading, impromptu watercolor, and cooking.
