What does a first session with you look like?

Clients can expect to take away a number of things from their sessions with me as their psychiatric nurse practitioner. First and foremost, I strive to provide a safe and supportive space where clients can feel heard, validated, and understood. By establishing a trusting therapeutic relationship, clients can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and emotions with me, which is essential to the success of any mental health treatment. During sessions, clients can expect to gain a better understanding of their mental health concerns, as well as the factors that may be contributing to their symptoms. I work collaboratively with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that may include a combination of therapy, medication management, and lifestyle changes.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Medication management: For clients who may benefit from medication, I prescribe and manage psychotropic medications, such as antidepressants, anti-anxiety medications, and mood stabilizers. NOTE: I do not prescribe controlled substances, such as stimulants and benzodiazepines, at this time. Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT): CBT is a type of talk therapy that helps clients identify and change negative patterns of thinking and behavior that contribute to their mental health concerns. Lifestyle modifications: Mental health is influenced by many factors, including diet, exercise, sleep, and stress levels. I work with clients to identify areas of their lifestyle that may be coontributing to their symptoms and develop a plan to address these factors.
