Under Clinical Supervision

Adison Buongiorno-Smith, Associate Clinical Social Worker, 116062 is practicing under the supervision of Allie Levy-Akoka (California, LMFT, 96670) at Activate Resilience Counseling.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?

The therapeutic connection made between therapist and client is one of the most crucial aspects of the 'therapy journey'. I am a real person, you are a real person, and where we can come together and be "real" with each other is what therapy is really all about. Communication with an emphasis on warmth, compassion, genuineness, and empowerment is what I strive to cultivate in our work together. I believe that at our core, humans need connection, and in the current age, this can be really difficult to achieve. Let us connect with each other.

Work History

While obtaining my Bachelor's and Master's degrees at UCF, I collaborated with a variety of other helping professionals and agencies including CCAI (Chinese Children Adoption International) and Outlook Clinic with AdventHealth. At Outlook Clinic, I provided individual psychotherapy to adults who experience anxiety and depression, OCD , grief and loss, life transitions, chronic health issues, trauma, and abuse. At CCAI I would work directly with adoptive families and their bio and adopted kiddos! I would help families with the development and attachment of their children, deal with the grief and loss within adoption, and overall family adjustment.
