In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
As a bi-racial woman with ADHD and complex trauma, I know how healing therapy can be, but I also understand how challenging it can be to confront the things that tend to hold us back in life. The insights and growth I have attained in my own work gives me a deeply personal perspective on the work that we will do together because I have walked that path before. Furthermore, I am acutely aware of the oppressive systems that always lurk in the background of our lives and negatively impact our functioning, and that perspective allows me to walk with my clients towards creating safe spaces within their lives to nurture their mental and emotional well-being.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My style is predominantly to move at your pace. Every session you get to set the tone in terms of what we explore. From there, my approach is conversational, laid back, and very human. I believe the most important part of our work is creating a safe environment and a strong therapeutic relationship so you can feel comfortable enough to be vulnerable and confront the most challenging aspects of your healing. I often incorporate more body-based approaches to therapy that allow us to tap into our body's natural way of processing and healing. Sometimes that means crying, screaming into pillows, laughing, jumping, shaking, tapping, etc. in order to let our emotions and life experiences flow through us to find relief.
In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
I do my best to ensure that my life philosophy and treatment philosophy are in alignment with each other, because I believe it is imperative to my integrity as a person and a therapist to practice what I preach. That being said, the two most important philosophies that I carry are that we all exist within various systems, and that we all must learn to transmute life's challenges into healing, authenticity, and growth. Our work together will allow you to finally embrace the pain that you carry and heal it so that you can use it as a foundation to create the life you deserve with stronger, deeper relationships, greater authenticity, emotional empowerment, clarity and confidence for the future, and resilience.
