What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I am empathetic, non-judgmental, and believe in providing all my clients with individualized treatment to help them in achieving their therapeutic goals. I believe in helping my clients build a deeper understanding of themselves and their situation by empathetically challenging thoughts when appropriate, providing psychoeducation, and providing clinical feedback throughout the session. I work alongside my clients to establish goals and regularly assess progress towards those goals. I believe that in order for change to occur, clients have to put into practice skills learned during therapy; therefore, I also like to periodically assign homework tasks to be completed throughout the week.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My style is gentle and non-judgmental. I strive to provide a safe environment where you will feel safe to work on your goals. I approach therapy from a strength based perspective - I believe that all of us have inherent strengths that carry us through the challenges we face ; and I believe that understanding those strengths improves resiliency that aids in bringing about positive change. I also use a variety of therapy modalities that include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) , Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
What does a first session with you look like?
I believe that a big part of therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. Therefore, my goal during that first session is to get to know you, and for you to get to know me. We will also talk about what brought you to therapy, possible goals you may have for yourself, your expectations for therapy, and how I can best support your growth. You will also be given time to ask any questions you have.
