What does a first session with you look like?
I like to start building a therapeutic alliance with my client, get a basic understanding of the concerns of the individual that is seeking counseling and like to complete a compressive assessment to assist with this process.
What does success look like in therapy? How will a client know that they are making progress?
I believe Success in therapy is one achieving their goals in therapy.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, Solution Focused, motivational interviewing and person-centered counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

Mood disorders
Mood disorder is a broad term used to include the different types of depressive and bipolar disorders, all of which affect mood. With a mood disorder, your moods may range from extremely low to extremely high or irritable.
Personality disorders
Personality disorders entail a maladaptive way of behaving, feeling, and thinking that deviate from societal and cultural norms. They may lead to personal distress, interpersonal issues, harmful behaviors, and legal issues. Personality disorders include paranoid, schizoid, schizotypal, antisocial, borderline, histrionic, narcissistic, avoidant, dependent, and obsessive-compulsive personality disorder. They are treatable but not curable.
Veterans' issues
Veterans’ issues involve any issues associated with veterans and/or their family members (military families). Veterans oftentimes present with issues that are unique to the human experience. PTSD, suicide, and substance use prevalence are high with this population as a result of immense stress and trauma. Other issues may include adjustment to civilian life, re-integrating with family, medical care, mental health treatment, employment, and finances.

Anxiety can mean nervousness, worry, or self-doubt. Anxiety disorder is a mental health disorder that entails excessive, repeated bouts of worry, anxiety, and/or fear.
Relationship Issues
Refers relationship issues with a partner or spouse. Can include issues related to relationship distress, relationship satisfaction, communication, intimacy, etc.
Loss/Grief
Grief is a reaction to an emotionally significant loss and often comes with symptoms of depression or anxiety. These symptoms can remain intense and last for a long time after a loss, making it difficult to move forward with a healthy lifestyle.
Self-Esteem
Self-esteem is the degree to which a person feels confident, valuable, and worthy of respect. Feeling low self-esteem can influence overall well-being and be linked to anxiety and/or depression.
