How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
After the initial intake session I will work with you to identify goals for counseling. Many times issues bringing people to counseling can seem overwhelming and abstract. I will work with you to break these issues down into something that has a more tangible place to start. Goals will likely feel small at first but it is important to realize they must be achievable otherwise we set ourselves up for failure. My job is to help you stay motivated and even times held accountable to your goals.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My main focus in therapy is that you feel comfortable, confident, and motivated to make change. I tend to take a laid back approach and allow you to take advantage of this time to discuss anything that may be on your mind. There will be times where I will gently challenge your thought process and decision making as a way to identify different perspectives that may align more with your values. I am open to any feedback about what is and is not working for you in sessions. I hope to close sessions with "take aways" or small homework assignments to continue our work outside of sessions.
What does a first session with you look like?
The first session is a "get to know you" session. I will explain the process of counseling and my own style to counseling. I want you to feel comfortable to ask any questions you may have at that time. I will then lead you through the initial intake where you can share more detailed information about different areas in your life and how it all connects in your choice to start therapy. I hope you walk away from the first session feeling lighter and looking forward to the next session!

Work HistoryI am a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in working with adolescents and young adults. I have strong experience working in community and school based mental health settings with clients struggling with anxiety, depression, mood disorders, behavioral issues and trauma. I also have experience conducting psycho-social assessments for those in crisis and being referred for higher levels of care.
