Under Clinical Supervision

Mary Kate Veal, Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, APC008615 is practicing under the supervision of Tara Vettena Towler-Crumby (Georgia, LPC, LPC005795) at anchored alliance counseling.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

I have been described as a little unconventional in the sense that I tend to shy away from the stereotypes and tropes of therapy. While I am compassionate and an active listener, I will ask challenging questions and sometimes push a little when I sense there is something deeper. I use a variety of theories highly dependent on the client I am working with and believe that the client is responsible for coming to the session prepared to do the work it takes to work toward mental health goals.

What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?

I think before entering the profession I underestimated the power of clients having a space to be truly heard and understood, so as wonderful as the many therapeutic models and strategies are, I truly try to focus on being that understanding presence for my clients.

Work History

Everyone can benefit from therapy regardless of how big or small a problem feels: both sprained and broken ankles can benefit from crutches! Whether you have faced a life-altering event, or have worries about the future, I will guide and support you along the journey. Taking the first steps to begin therapy can be intimidating, but is an important move to make to become your best self. My approach balances the emotional processing necessary to generate insights with the practical components of skill building to truly give you all the benefits therapy can provide. I use a flexible integrative model to generate individualized treatment since no two people or problems are the same. I believe therapy is most effective when we collaborate to improve your quality of life. I'm excited to begin the process of achieving your personal goals! Currently supervised by Tara Towler-Cumby, MA, LPC, CPCS.
